For The Kid in All of Us - Disney's Magic Kingdom Here We Come

Can your dreams really come true? Disney World! in Orlando, Florida has everything you can possibly hope for in a fun-filled holiday no matter what your age. The minute you step inside one of the many theme parks, the magic envelops you and you are whisked away on a "magic carpet ride" to places and times you thought only existed in another world. So take my hand and I'll show you where to find some of that magic.

What are the first things that come to mind when you think of Disney?
Mickey's ears and Cinderella's Castle of course. The Magic Kingdom is where all of this comes to life. So park your car, take a tram to the admission gate, decide whether to take a ferry or monorail to the main entrance of the park and forget your worries. The best time of your life is about to begin!

The first sight you see when you step into the Magic Kingdom park is Main Street USA where dancing in the streets is a common practice and disney characters on colorful floats parade their way along the Railroad. The sights are endless so don your best walking shoes and let's walk around the park.

Adventureland- Going for a ride on The Magic Carpets of Aladdin or climbing the Swiss Family Treehouse is a great start to the day. A must do is the Pirates of the Caribbean water voyage. In this action-packed adventure you'll see a real-life pirate ship and lots of rowdy pirates dueling and carousing. Or take the Jungle Cruise through jungle rivers where you'll discover crocs, elephants, and yes, even cannibals.

Frontierland - Splash Mountain is the ride to take on a hot Florida day. Jump onto a log and travel to Brer Rabbit's Place and then drop five stories into the briar patch. Yes, you'll get wet the but ride is worth every drop of water and you can dry off when you board the runaway mine train on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster as it makes its way through the old west. Visit Tom Sawyer's Island and raft across the Rivers of America or kick it off with the Country Bear Jamboree where you can stomp your feet with the bears strummin on the ole banjo. And if you're not tired of kicking up your heels, take in Goofy's Country Dancin' Jamboree.

Liberty Square- The Hall of Presidents show is a great place to see the nation's presidents come to life or venture down the Rivers of America on the steam-powered paddle wheeled Liberty Square Riverboat. If you're into scary, try The Haunted Mansion which will take you on a tour of a 19th century mansion where you will experience plenty of hair-raising ghosts along the way.

Fantasyland - If you're interested in seeing children from all the different nations, climb into a boat and take a ride through "It's a small world". The children's colorful costumes and singing make this tour a worthwhile adventure. Next you can climb aboard a pirate ship and fly with Peter Pan over top Never Land. And don't forget to take in Cinderella's Surprise Celebration at the castle which is a live show featuring all of your favorite disney characters. If you have smaller children along, they might want to soar through the air on Dumbo the Flying Elephant or spin around on the Mad Hatter's teacups or take a hunny pot ride in the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Mickey's Toontown - Mickey's Country House and Minnie's Country House are life-size cottages with life-size furniture but this is where realty ends. Both of these four bedroom colorful homes are a must see. You can even take pictures on Minnie or Mickey's chair or couch and then make your way to the Judge's Tent to actually meet Mickey in person. If all of this activity has tuckered you out, you can take a rest at Donald's Boat while the kids play and then grab a ride on the steam train which takes you back to Main Street, USA.

Tomorrowland - If you still have some zip in you, you can race your own car around a winding track on the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway or better yet, try the roller coaster at Space Mountain. This is a high speed roller coaster that takes you through the darkness of space, so if you have a queasy stomach, beware. After the ride, go to the theater and watch a fun-filled 3D movie that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

The park times vary depending on certain holidays during the year where it might close at a certain hour and reopen later in the evening for special events, so be sure to pick up a park guide and schedule to check for any special events that might be happening. The park generally hosts a finale at the end of the evening which consists of a live show with all the Disney characters and the greatest fireworks you've ever seen, so be sure not to miss it. I have mentioned most of the main attractions in this article but I'm sure you'll find many more on your own. There are many shops to walk through and restaurants to eat at, all with their own uniqueness. Make the most of this adventure and simply let go and enjoy.

Florida Pics

Just thought I would throw a few pics from my recent holiday to Disney World in Orlando, Florida on my blog.

Planning Your Well-Earned Vacation

So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and travel for the first time. Or maybe you’ve traveled a few times but still don’t know the ins and outs of travel. Whatever the case, I am at your service.

My husband and I have traveled extensively in the United States and Canada and have just recently returned from a trip to Florida, where of course we visited the Disney Parks. My favorite place to go in Orlando! We have also traveled to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic and Veradero, Cuba and I can honestly say there is nothing like seeing the world with your own eyes. And the good thing is, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Now you’re probably thinking, oh sure, fine for her to talk. She’s probably retired with hoards of money in her account and she has all the time and money in the world to do what she wants. WRONG. I’m just a regular ‘Joe Blow’ that loves to travel and I search for every resource online and offline to find the best deal there is out there. I’m also cheap so I look for the best deals possible, but traveling doesn’t have to cost you your first-born. Sure it takes time to find the right deal but ooohh, it’s so worth it.

Okay, let’s get started.

Step 1. How much can you afford?

It’s important to have a budget so you don’t get carried away in all the excitement. How long do you plan to stay? One week? Two weeks? Are you going ‘All Inclusive’? Or are you planning your very own special trip. Whatever it is you want to do, make sure your pocket book can afford it. Most ‘All Inclusive’ resorts include your room, three meals a day, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Some throw in specials such as scuba diving lessons, dance lessons or free language lessons but remember, most hotels want to sell you an excursion or two, which can cost up to 100.00 per person or more, depending on what you want to do. Decide beforehand on the number of excursions, if any, you plan to take and budget accordingly.

Step 2. Finding a destination:

Picking a destination is the fun part. Do you prefer to lie on a sandy beach, surrounded by tropical blue waters or how about a historic city filled with museums and wonderful architecture or maybe a romantic getaway on a small, private island? Once you decide on the destination, do the research. Check the Internet, your local library, magazines, DVD’s, etc to find out as much as you can about the place you wish to visit. Knowing about your destination gives you an overall view of what to expect when you get there.

Step 3. Select a Travel Time
Selecting a travel time is crucial to your budget. For instance, travel to the Caribbean is usually cheapest in January and prices go up gradually as the winter season progresses. Also, pay attention to weather patterns such as hurricane season (June-November) when prices go down as opposed to school vacations in the summer, winter and spring when prices tend to go up.

Step 4. Type of Resort

What is the right resort for your needs? If this is a kid-free vacation, then you might want to consider an adult-only resort. If your vacation includes the kids, make sure the resort you choose has plenty of kiddies programs or if the kids are older, plenty of activities to keep them busy.

Step 5. Book your vacation

Now that you know your budget and have decided on a time and destination, you need to book the vacation. Check major online booking sites and call a travel agent nearest you and compare pricing. If you can leave at the last minute, most sites have deals they offer at discount pricing, but not always. Just because it’s last minute, doesn’t necessarily say it’s cheap. For the first time traveler, I suggest booking an All Inclusive because it puts you more at ease and there’s certainly less planning involved. Once you become a more seasoned traveler, you can be more adventurous and build your own holiday.
